Meet the board of directors, the people that are responsible for S.A.V.E.T.H.E.M

Cynthera McNeill, DNP, APRN, AGPCNP-C

Dr. Cynthera McNeill holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from Wayne State University, is nationally certified as a Primary Care Nurse Practitioner, and is full-time Clinical Faculty at Wayne State University College of Nursing.  She is currently a healthcare provider in Detroit, MI specializing in Primary care for Adult and Geriatric patients.

 

Dr. McNeill has an outstanding academic background that includes a Doctorate in Nursing Practice and Graduate Teaching Certificate from Wayne State University and two bachelor’s degreesfrom Michigan State University (a BS in Biology with a minor in Chemistry and a BS in nursing).  Her research interest revolves around addressing the adolescent sexual health, HIV/AIDS epidemic among inner city African American adolescents and increasing HIV/AIDS knowledge among youth and other at-risk populations.

 

As a product of Detroit, an educator, a health care provider and an active member of many community service organizations serving the Metro Detroit Area, Dr. McNeill has seen firsthand the positive impact that our community based organizations make on the youth.

Christopher A. Covington, MA, MAET.

Mr. Christopher Covington currently works for the University of Wisconsin- Madison as a Student Service Specialst for the Pre-college Enrichment Opportunities Program for Learning Excellence (PEOPLE) middle school division.  He also works as private consultant, graphic designer, and independent research in popular culture media. Through the years Mr. Covington’s research interests are have become embedded in popular culture dealing with stereotypes, visual appearance, and underrepresentation of African Americans in film, television, video games and comics, intrinsic learning through media, and health information technology. 

 

Mr. Covington is sum of what hard work and passion can become. A product of Cass Tech High School, he has obtained a bachelor’s In multimedia with a minor in graphic design, and two master’s degrees (multimedia with a concentration in serious game design, user experience and research and the other in educational technology) from Michigan State University.  He previously worked at Yale University for the Department of Emergency Medicine, Wayne State University’s Office of Housing and Residential Life, and with the G.E.A.R.U.P Program at Michigan State University.

Dr. Tara L. Walker

Tara Walker, DNP, APRN, ACNP-BC is a clinical faculty member at Wayne State University College of Nursing and an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner.  Dr. Walker’s 17 years of nursing experience includes: medical surgical, emergency, administration, and cardiology. Dr. Walker incorporates her administrative experience to combat barriers to implementing evidence-based practice. Her foundational principle for every project starts with patient-centered, cost effective care. She belongs to the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, Michigan Council of Nurse Practitioners, American College of Cardiologists, and Sigma Theta Tau.

 

Education: Doctor of Nursing Practice

Research Interests/Community Interests: Cardiology adult population/Member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Hobbies: travel, movies, spa/relaxation, projects, photography, collecting Christmas ornaments,
